Key Highlights
-
The Flavor Profile: This masala is a complex mix of over 15 spices. It features a strong presence of cinnamon, cloves, and kapok buds (marathi moggu), which give Bisibele Bhath its unique, slightly floral and warm aroma.
-
Consistency: Eastern uses a specialized grinding process to ensure the spice blend is uniform, so you don’t get large chunks of whole spices in your rice.
-
Purity: Like their other products, this mix contains no artificial colors or preservatives.
How to Make “Perfect” Bisibele Bhath
-
Pressure Cook: Cook 1 cup of rice and ½ cup of Toor Dal together with 4 cups of water and turmeric until very soft (almost mushy).
-
Sauté Veggies: In a separate pan, sauté carrots, beans, peas, and shallots.
-
The Masala: Add 3–4 tablespoons of Eastern Bisibele Bhath Masala to the veggies along with a small amount of tamarind paste and jaggery (optional but recommended for authenticity).
-
Combine: Mix the spiced veggies into the cooked rice and dal.
-
The Final Tadka: The most important step! Temper with ghee, mustard seeds, curry leaves, and fried cashews.
